SOAL SYIAH

THE SHI'A ISSUE
1. Shi'a are part of Islam: Islam has many schools of thought and sects, including Shi'a which has around 20 sects (some of which are classified as Ghulat/excessive). However, this should not be generalized to equate all Shi'a with the excessive groups. Clear evidence is that the Saudi Arabian government (a center of Salafi thought) still allows Iranian citizens (the majority of whom are Shi'a) to perform Hajj and Umrah, and has even appointed a minister from the Shi'a community.
2. Prohibition of accusing fellow Muslims of being infidels: This act is forbidden unless there is clear evidence of disbelief. Those who still worship Allah and pray facing the Ka'bah remain part of Islam. This is reinforced by a hadith stating to guard oneself from declaring those who say "Laa ilaaha Illa Allah" (There is no god but Allah) as infidels, as well as the account of Companion Jabir who stated that one must not accuse those who face the Qiblah (the direction of prayer) of being polytheists or infidels.
3. Criticism of the Salafi group: It is stated that the Salafi group tends to generalize all Shi'a and easily accuse fellow Muslims of being infidels, even though this contradicts the teachings of the Prophet and the example of the Companions

Hadith: "Guard yourself against [harming] those who say 'Laa ilaaha Illa Allah' (There is no god but Allah). Do not declare them infidels because of a single sin. Whoever declares those who affirm Tawhid (the Oneness of Allah) to be infidels is himself closer to disbelief." (Narrated by Thabrani)

Abu Sufyan asked Jabir while he was traveling to Makkah. He stopped at the Banu Fihr tribe. Someone asked him: "Do you accuse any person who faces the Qiblah (for prayer) of being a polytheist and an infidel?' Jabir replied: 'I seek refuge in Allah. No!!!" (Narrated by Abu Ya'la and Thabrani)
